Without any warning, FuboTV pulled the plug on Fubo Sportsbook. For Fubo partner, the Cleveland Cavaliers, it’s back to square one with a little more than two months until Ohio launches online sports betting January 1.

The team has a conditional Type A license, now with no operator to run it.

Jessica Franks, communications director for the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), told Saturday Tradition that the Cavaliers have no deadline to name an operator. The team, which just opened its regular season, has to let the OCCC know within 10 days of naming its new partner.

“I find it very unlikely they will be able to get us a complete application and submit all of the necessary regulatory requirements for that launch,” Franks told Saturday Tradition.

Still, the situation has no bearing on opening a retail sportsbook at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, where they selected Caesars Sportsbook as operator.

The commission issued its conditional approval September 21, with Fubo as its operator, but no backup sportsbook.

Fubo announced its decision to close up shop during FuboTV’s third quarter presentation on October 19.

“Following our previously announced strategic review, we have concluded that continuing with Fubo Gaming and Fubo Sportsbook in this challenging macroeconomic environment would impact our ability to reach our longer term profitability goals,” said David Gandler, co-founder and CEO, FuboTV.

Fubo also had partnerships with the New York Jets NFL franchise and NASCAR, among others.
