Future-Proofing the Industry at Canada Conference

The New Horizons in Responsible Gambling Conference, presented by the British Columbia Lottery Corp. (BCLC), will be held March 10-12 at the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver.

Since 2013, the conference has been a hub for thought leadership about the evolving industry. This year’s conference theme is “Future-Proofing the Gambling Industry.” The agenda will center on:

  • Promoting safer play behaviors/decreasing risky play
  • Reducing harms associated with gambling products and/or environments
  • Developing a culture that prioritizes the well-being of consumers

According to Jamie Wiebe, BCLC director, player health, delegates and speakers will be discussing their insights and knowledge around the following questions:

  • Imagine we had the opportunity to build the gambling industry today, knowing what we do about the potential for harm – how would we do it?
  • What safeguards would we put in place?
  • How would we design our products and environments?
  • What would we stop doing, continue doing and what would we want to learn more about in order to start doing? How would we ensure our industry grows in a socially responsible manner?

Spearheading the discussions will be speakers including Tim Miller, executive director at the UK Gambling Commission and Misha Glouberman, faculty director at the Ivey Academy at Western University’s Ivey Business School.
