Reed Exhibitions and the American Gaming Association, producers of Global Gaming Expo Asia this month in Macau, have announced main keynotes and panels for the show, which will take place at Venetian Macao May 19-21.
James Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, will give the keynote address at G2E Asia on Wednesday, May 20. Murren’s solo speech will be followed by a conversation with Grant Govertsen, managing partner of Union Gaming Research Macau Ltd.
Hong Kong-listed MGM China is already building MGM Cotai, a new resort on Cotai in Macau with a capital budget of HKD23 billion (US$3 billion). It is scheduled to open in the autumn of 2016.
Meanwhile, London-based Inspired Gaming Group announced that Harmen Brenninkmeijer, its senior vice president of Asia and strategic markets, will moderate a session at G2E Asia called “Regulation vs. Prohibition.”
Asia is an incredibly interesting growth region, particularly for gaming,” said Brenninkmeijer. “There are a lot of opportunities to introduce new types of gambling, but this naturally gives rise to the age-old debate between prohibition and regulation.
“My experience in the gaming industry, and particularly at Inspired, has been that cleaning up illegal gambling markets and establishing sound regulations to ensure player protection and tax collection is a positive step for governments, players and society in general. It’s a topic close to my heart, so I am thrilled to be moderating a session on this very issue.”
