Former California state Senator Cathleen Galgiani, a lesbian, has been appointed to the five-person California Gambling Control Commission by Governor Gavin Newsom.

This is Newsom’s second appointment of a gay person to the commission this year. In January he appointed Eric C. Heins, a gay man from Santa Rosa, who is also president of the California Teachers Association, to the panel.

Sacramento resident Galbiani, was termed out as a state senator in 2020. She was a member of the Legislative LGBTQ Caucus from 2013-2020.

The commission oversees cardrooms and tribal casinos.
