The review of the U.K. Gambling Act of 2005 has sparked new research from GambleAware, a charity devoted to education and treatment of gambling harms. The project, funded by £250,000 (US$346,000), will look into gambling issues among women and marginalized communities. Current research is limited, according to SBCNews.
But existing evidence say ethnic minority communities are not as likely to seek treatment compared to white communities. As for women, participation and subject to gambling disorders are increasing more than with men.
“GambleAware is seeking bids from consortia and multidisciplinary teams that may include research agencies and/or academics and institutions; and anticipates that the winning bids will take a mixed-method, multidisciplinary and multisector approach to achieve the aims of the research programs,” a GambleAware statement read.
Research will help GambleAware reach out to policy makers, with a goal of improving a national strategy in dealing with gambling problems.
