Gambling Addiction High for Native Americans

Native Americans have the highest rate of gambling addiction of any group in the United States. They are tied for that dubious distinction with Asian Americans.

Native Americans have one of the highest rates of problem gambling in the nation according to the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions.

The rate is 2.3 percent for Alaskan Natives and American Indians, and is tied with Asian Americans for the highest for all groups.

Patterson Silver Wolf, a member of the Cherokee tribe told St. Louis Public Radio, “More-traditional Natives are more-healthy Natives. “He added, “And you can talk about going back to learning your language, learning your culture. Doing all of those things are protective for health matters.”
