Gambling Addiction on the Rise Among Macau Tourists

Gambling addiction is on the rise among people who travel to Macau’s world-famous casinos.

According to Macau Business, Cheang Io Tat of the city’s Social Welfare Bureau said of 110 cases of problem gambling it handled from January through September, 30 percent involved tourists.

“The SAR government is equally committed to addressing tourists with gambling disorders,” said Cheang. “In the coming year, the focus of responsible gambling endeavors will primarily be on tourists.”

As part of the solution, the local government will encourage greater cooperation between the city’s six gaming concessionaires and social service providers, the news outlet reported.
