Gaming Bill Introduced in New Hampshire

Senator Lou D’Allesandro (l.), tireless defender of casinos, has once again introduced a bill that would authorize two casinos in New Hampshire. He has introduced many such bills, and seen them go down in defeat. But he remains optimistic.

Perennial casino champion State Senator Lou D’Allesandro, supported by a bipartisan group of senators, last week introduced a bill that would authorize two casinos in the Granite State.

The senator points out that his sparsely populated state is surrounded by gaming states, none of which contribute to New Hampshire. He argues that the state can’t support a destination type casino resort, but could support one or two regional casinos, casinos that would trap some of the money that its sons and daughters would be spending in Massachusetts or New York.

His bill was sponsored by seven other senators, including six Democrats and one Republican. The bill will get its first hearing this week.

Similar bills have passed in the Senate, only to founder in the more independent House.
