Gaming Concessionaires Promote Vaccines in Macau

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has announced plans to set up a vaccination site at its Galaxy Macau resort and also hold two Covid-19 vaccine information seminars.

According to Inside Asian Gaming, officials with the Macau Health Bureau met with gaming operators recently to address low vaccination rates across the territory. Local news channel TDM reported that just only 7.8 percent of the local population got both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. MGM China and Melco Resorts & Entertainment have both launched initiatives to promote vaccination among their staff last week.

A vaccine center will be set up at Galaxy Macau this month with the capacity to serve between 1,500 and 1,800 employees and their families. Employees who participate will get two extra leave days.

“GEG has been working closely with the relevant departments and supporting the related pandemic prevention and control measures laid out by the Macau SAR government,” the company said. “The success of Macau’s anti- pandemic work did not come easy. … Pandemic prevention and control has become part of society’s new-normal.”

MGM China was the first of the concessionaires to set up a Covid-19 vaccination station at one of its properties, MGM Cotai, in May. Sands China, Melco Resorts and Entertainment, Wynn Macau and SJM Holdings are also cooperating with the Health Bureau, according to GGRAsia.

All six operators are offering incentives for staffers who line up to get vaccinated. Melco Resorts, for one, will give MOP1,000 (US$125) to vaccinated employees, plus the chance to be able to win an additional cash prize. Wynn Macau Ltd offered two days of special leave. Others have offered similar rewards.
