Gaming State Legislators Meet In Miami

Questions regarding tribal-state relations will be the focus of the winter meeting of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, January 5-7 in Miami. Prominent speakers will discuss compacts, technology and internet gambling, including National Indian Gaming Commission Chairman Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri, Vice Chair Kathryn Isom-Clause and Associate Commissioner E. Sequoyah Simermeyer (Coharie).

The winter meeting of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States will be held January 5-7, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Miami Hotel. NCLGS President Bill Galvano, president-designate of the Florida Senate, said, “Our goal at NCLGS is to foster dialogs at the local, state and national levels, so that state and tribal governments can work together as effective partners.”

The State-Federal Relations Committee will present prominent speakers who will address: How do compacts need to evolve in the face of rapid technological change? Can tribes offer internet gambling and if so what are the legal or regulatory steps to implementation? Answering the questions will be Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri, chair, National Indian Gaming Commission; Kathryn Isom-Clause, vice chair, National Indian Gaming Commission; Sheila Morago, president, Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association; E. Sequoyah Simermeyer (Coharie), associate commissioner, National Indian Gaming Commission; and Valerie Spicer, president, Trilogy Group and former president, Arizona Indian Gaming Commission.
