Japan-based online gaming content supplier Ganapati announced it will release a game in September that is themed around images of boxing legend and Philippine Senator Manny Pacquiao. Proceeds from the slot game will go to the boxer’s charitable foundation, which supports children’s education in the Philippines.
The announcement was timed to coincide with Pacquiao’s return to the ring against welterweight champion Keith Thurman on July 20 in Las Vegas. Pacquiao, 40, defeated Thurman to become the oldest welterweight champion in history, one more feat in a career that has seen the “People’s Champion” win titles in eight different divisions and four weight classes.
He is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, and has been a member of the Philippine Congress since 2010. He was elected to a six-year term as senator in 2016,
Ganapati’s game will feature imagery of Pacquiao inspired by his boxing talent. Ganapati, which aims to bring Japanese culture to global gaming, said the deal will highlight the longstanding mutually supportive relations between Japan and the Philippines, as well as give back to the local Filipino community.
“This opportunity is extremely exciting for us as it represents Ganapati’s considerable growth within the industry,” said Juliet Adelstein, CEO of Ganapati Europe. “We’re delighted to be involved in this project with the octuple champion Manny Pacquiao—a true global superstar. It is wonderful to know the extent to which Ganapati is now being recognized in the industry.”
Hayato Terai, CLO of Ganapati PLC and Ganapati Malta, said Pacquiao was renowned for facing his opponents without fear.
“Manny Pacquiao is the most successful and respected athlete in Asia and an incredibly skilled and determined politician. It is an honor to be able to produce his official game.”
