Garage Sale Precedes Michigan Casino Renovations

The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe recently held an indoor garage sale for employees and tribal members at its Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort hotel in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, offering televisions, beds and other guest-room furniture for $5 each. Officials said an hour before the sale the line had grown to more than 500 people. Due to the overwhelming response the public portion of the sale was cancelled.

The sale was held to prepare for major renovations at the hotel—the first remodeling there since the property opened in 1998. The first phase, to be completed in August, will include updating all 516 rooms plus infrastructure updates like plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and technology. Also, the hotel’s sixth and seventh floors and front desk and administrative areas will be demolished and rebuilt.

Three more phases will follow, to be completed by mid-2020. Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Chief Executive Officer Mike Bean said, “Over the course of the past 22 years, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort has been committed to providing its guests with a great experience, from gaming to dining to entertainment to its hotel resort amenities. This project represents that continued commitment. We strive to be the first choice for people when deciding where to go for a resort casino experience. We look forward to the completion of this project and providing our guests with a greatly enhanced experience.”

Bean added the renovations will allow guests to “experience an enhanced level of luxurious designs, contemporary furnishings and modern technology including mobile check-in and keyless entry into their guests rooms.”
