Gateway Casinos is promoting its proposed new casino in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It has operated a casino in the city since 1999 and has so far paid nearly $40 million to the city.
It would continue to share the profits from a new Sudbury casino with the province. It would invest $60 million in the casino, which would be part of a larger $100 million entertainment complex. It has promised to buy local goods and services and to fill jobs in the casino with locals whenever possible.
According to Paul Burns, interim president chief executive officer of the Canadian Gaming Association, who supports the new casino, “Almost 71 per cent of community leaders who are currently living with a casino in their community would accept a casino again today, a powerful endorsement of the benefits that gaming brings to cities across Canada. Eighty-five per cent of community leaders stated that they believe the casino in their community is a good corporate citizen; 78 per cent believe the casino enhances the tourism appeal of the community, as well as offering a quality entertainment product (77 per cent) and a safe environment (90 per cent); and 72 per cent believe the casino generates business for local suppliers of goods and services.”
