Gateway Proposes $75 Million Ontario Casino

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited recently announced plans for the $75 million Starlight Casino in southwest London, Ontario. The proposal still must be presented to the city council, which is expected to approve it. Scheduled for completion in 2021, the facility will create 700-plus new jobs.

Gateway Casino Vice President Grant Darling said the 9,000 square foot property on Wonderland Road will offer 40 table games, nearly 1,000 slot machines, a concert venue and restaurants. Darling added the property will be family friendly, so visitors can bring their children to dine and watch a show.

Still uncertain is the future for Gateway’s existing smaller Western Fair casino. Gateway officials said they’re committed to keeping it open for now and employees have been assured their jobs are secure; however, many will be transferred to the new Starlight Casino, suggesting the Western Fair casino will close.

Gateway continues to expand operations, with its $36 million casino in Chatham-Kent near completion.
