Gateway Proposes Ontario Casino

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment has begun a process for locating a casino in Huron County, Ontario, Canada. It has so far contacted the towns of South Huron and Lambton Shores.

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment is reaching out to communities in Huron County about a casino. Gateway has contacted the government of Lambton Shores about a possible casino in this city in Ontario, Canada, and before that contacted the municipality of South Huron.

Mayor Bill Weber of Lambton Shores told Blackburn News that there had at this point only been brief conservations with Gateway. “They have reached out to talk to us about what they’re proposing, so at this time I don’t have a lot of comment,” said the mayor. “There is a process, I’m not really up to speed on what it is to attract a casino to a community, I hope there is public consultation, there are issues that come with casinos that I hope can be addressed prior to moving forward.”

The other community that Gateway is talking to is South Huron, which has voted on a preferred site for a casino between the Dark Horse Winery and the Huron County Playhouse.

South Huron Chief Administrative Office Dan Best commented that the identification of a site moves the process forward. “That allows us to reach out to our neighboring municipalities such as Lambton Shores,” Best told Blackburn News. “Because we want to look at this as an overall coordinated process and be very strategic in terms of the benefits from an economic development perspective.”

The next step is for South Huron to contact Gateway about its decision and the need for possible zoning modifications.
