Genius, Dutch Basketball Sign Data Deal

London-based sports data and technology company Genius Sports has signed a deal with the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) to provide its GeniusLive automated streaming and production services. GeniusLive will be implemented at all DBL venues for the current 2019-20 season.

The arrangement will allow the DBL to offer all games live and on-demand via its new website, complete with integrated commentary and graphics.

Genius will also provide its live data collection and competition management solutions, enabling the DBL to capture live statistics from courtside to power its scoreboards, website, mobile apps and streaming solutions.

Genius has been running its FIBA Organizer and FIBA LiveStats solutions in partnership with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since 2004.

“As an up-and-coming league, we really value their approach, counselling and passion for basketball,” DBL Chairman Ramses Braakman said. “Their cutting-edge, but affordable, technology allows the DBL to punch well above its weight given our limited resources.”

Romain Vez, head of basketball at Genius, added, “Our partnership with the DBL represents a pivotal moment for Genius Sports and our mission to continue driving the digital development of world basketball through live data and video.

“FIBA LiveStats and FIBA Organizer are already used by leagues and federations in over 150 countries globally and each one of these partners, like the DBL, can now benefit from high-quality, cost-effective streaming technology.”

The deal comes after Genius last week also struck up a new integrity partnership with the governing body for Colombia’s leading football competitions División Mayor del Fútbol Profesional Colombiano (Dimayor).
