Genting Applies For Tower Re-approval in Miami

Malaysian casino giant Genting recently asked the Federal Aviation Administration for re-approval of its plans to build three 649 foot towers on its Miami, Florida property. Genting purchased the former Miami Herald complex (l.) in 2011 for $236 million in anticipation of developing a casino there.

Genting, the Malaysian casino giant, has asked the Federal Aviation Administration to reapprove plans to build three 649 foot towers at the former Miami Herald complex on the bayfront, where Genting had hoped to develop a destination casino. The FAA approved the towers in 2013 but that approval expired on January 10, according to federal records.

Genting purchased the property for $236 million in 2011. The company does not expect to build the towers in the near future, since it has an arrangement with Art Miami, the city’s major art fair, to set up its tent on the Genting site for the next few years, a spokesperson said.
