Genting Chief’s Son Promoted

Genting Bhd named Lim Keong Hui (l.), the son of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, 34, as deputy chief executive officer. He previously was executive director. Other management changes were announced, due to revenue losses, tax increases and issues surrounding projects in Malaysia and Las Vegas.

Genting Bhd recently announced several management changes, the result of revenue declines due to tax increases, plus challenges regarding two major projects.

Lim Keong Hui has been named deputy chief executive officer. Lim, 34, the son of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, most recently served as executive director. He joined Genting Group in 2009.

In addition, Wong Yee Fun, who was named deputy chief financial officer in January 2018 has been named chief financial officer. Independent Director Tan Sri Foong Cheng Yuen will become deputy chairman.

The company also announced the retirements of Deputy Chairman Tun Mohammed Hanif Bin Omar and Chief Financial Officer Chong Kin Leong.

In December, the group announced its Genting Malaysia unit sued Walt Disney Company and Fox Entertainment after 20th Century Fox pulled out of a planned joint theme park at its Resorts World Genting resort in Malaysia.

In addition, Wynn Resorts recently announced it was suing Genting over the design of its Resorts World Las Vegas property, currently under construction. Wynn Resorts officials said Genting’s resort is too similar in design to its own.
