Genting Down in UK

The UK division of Malaysian gaming giant Genting UK has posted its 2015 results, showing a loss of £56 million (US$82 million) loss for the year. Its assets in London, including its flagship, Crockford’s (l.), took the biggest hit, according to reports.

Provinces were stronger

Genting UK was down £56 million (US$82 million) for 2015. According to the iGaming Post, hardest hit were its London casinos, where revenues drop by £100 million, despite a healthy rise in visitation of 100,000 for the year. Though customers came in droves, spend was down 29 percent across the UK, and fell by 64 percent down in London. Customers in London who spend an average of £285 in 2014 spent just £160 in 2015.

It was another story at Genting’s 43 provincial casinos, where revenues rose 15 percent. But those gains were more than cancelled out by losses in the capital, and made Genting a big loser in the jurisdiction for the year.

President and COO Peter Brooks of Genting UK said, “The focus of the group over the coming year includes strengthening the group’s position in the domestic business segment and improving business efficiency.

“In addition following the adverse effects of events encountered in Asia on the international business segment, the group has revised its marketing efforts and will be implementing additional strategies to reinforce this segment,” he said.
