Genting Malaysia Berhad’s RM10 billion (US$2.4 billion) expansion plan for its resort in the Titiwangsa Mountains near Kuala Lumpur does not include additional casino space, according to Chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay.

“We would start to ‘soft open’ part of it at the end of this year, and progressively roll everything out next year. There will be a new gaming venue but no expansion,” Lim told the New Straits Times.

Undertaken in December 2013, the Genting Integrated Tourism Plan to redevelop Resorts World Genting. But Lim said the company does not rule out adding gaming facilities to the existing casino floor. “We will see. If you can fit more tables into the same space, why not?”

The plan also includes the RM2 billion (US$482 million) 20th Century Fox World theme park, the Sky Avenue shopping mall and Genting Premium Outlets, the Times reported. The expansion will create 7,000 new jobs at the resort, as well as require new power sub-stations and water treatment plants to cater for future growth.

Phase II will see the construction of more luxury hotels as well as a show arena with a seating capacity of up to 10,000.
