German Deutsche Telekom Plans Online Sports Betting

German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom will enter the online sports betting market, but has not announced the products it will offer.

Deutche Telekom sees online gambling as an expanding market and wants in.

The German company announced it will move into the online market, but did not announce a product line.

“The sport betting market is booming so an entry is of interest to Deutsche Telekom,” a company spokeswoman told Reuters. “It is not yet clear what products we will be offering.”

German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported that Deutsche Telekom intends to offer its betting services through a company called Deutsche Sportwetten, which is expected to gain government approval. If the company is granted a gambling license by German regulators, Deutsche Telekom would become its majority shareholder.
