German Gambling Halls To Close

Two dozen gambling facility operators have filed objections to new laws recently passed in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz. The new Gambling Act requires 342 gambling halls to close by July 1, 2021 because they’re considered to be located too close to youth facilities. The sites will be reassigned to protect children and adolescents, according to the new law.

In Bremen, gambling halls within a radius of 273 yards from youth facilities, sports facilities, youth clubs and schools must close. In Rhineland-Palatinate, the minimum radius is 547 yards. That also is the minimum distance required between any two gambling halls in any municipality.

And in Trier, by July 2021, 32 of the city’s 34 gambling halls will not be allowed to operate. Only two locations will remain open, with a maximum of 12 slot machines each.
