Sports betting companies servicing German players have formed a new trade group to help press for better regulation in the country.
The German Sports Betting Association includes domestic and international sports betting companies.
Founding members include German firms Admiral Sportwetten, BetterBet, Deutsche Sportwetten (Deutsche Telekom), Happybet, Mybet and Tipico. Joining them are international operators Bet365, Betfair, Cashpoint, Ladbrokes and Stanleybet. All members either hold federal gambling licenses or hold online betting licenses issued by the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The DSWV will be headed by Mybet former CEO Matthias Dahms, while Dirk Quermann, CEO of Merkur Interactive and Tipico general counsel Hans Wolfram Kessler have been appointed DSWV’s vice-presidents.
Germany announced 20 sports betting license recipients earlier this month, but the licenses have yet to take effect. Some companies shut out of the licenses have challenged the licensing process in the country.
The new group calls the situation “untenable” and plans to work to “remove the uncertainty and to ensure safe betting, both for consumers and providers.”
