GGB PODCAST: Chief Richard Sneed, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians

This week the GGB Podcast features a discussion with Richard Sneed, the principal chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians from North Carolina on the diversification of the tribal economy, which features the purchase of Caesars Southern Indiana, which the tribe will also operate.

Richard Sneed was elected vice chairman of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in 2015 and principal chief in 2017, and re-elected in 2019. Sneed is dedicated to diversification of the tribal economy and has led an effort to enter commercial gaming, which has occurred with the purchase of Caesars Southern Indiana. Sneed also explains how the tribal casinos responded to the pandemic and why the Cherokees opposed the opening a casino by the South Carolina-based Choctaw Band in North Carolina. He spoke with GGB Publisher Roger Gros via Zoom from his North Carolina office in June.
