When the National Center for Responsible Gaming was rebranded as the International Center for Responsible Gaming at the 2019 Conference on Gambling and Addiction, the organization was planning a wide-ranging event in 2020 to recognize that expanded focus. But as with all conferences and trade shows scheduled through the end of 2020 and beyond, the 21st Conference on Gambling and Addiction will exist only in cyberspace. ICRG Chairman Alan Feldman and Executive Director Chris Reilly got together with GGB Publisher Roger Gros to discuss the reasons they decided to go online with the conference and how it will be presented. They also explain what kind of impact the pandemic has had on responsible gaming. With few gambling options available, how did those suffering from gambling addictions cope? How will responsible gaming organizations deal with reduced funding and fewer research dollars? Feldman and Reilly explain the realities of problem gambling research in an interview conducted in mid-July.
