Nevada’s new attorney general has named J. Brin Gibson chief deputy of the state’s gaming division, which advises the Gaming Control Board and Nevada Gaming Commission on regulatory matters, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Attorney General-elect Adam Laxalt tapped Gibson in what is viewed as a strategy to “remake” the attorney general’s office, the newspaper reported. Laxalt, a Republican, will assume the office in early January; in November he named another Republican, Assemblyman Wes Duncan as assistant attorney general.
Gibson previously worked in the gaming and regulatory department for the law firm of Lionel Sawyer & Collins. His father is Jim Gibson, the former mayor of Henderson and a onetime gubernatorial candidate.
“Brin has the right skill set and commitment to public service for this important position,” Laxalt said in a statement.
