Gifting Las Vegas

It’s always a good idea to give gifts to your casino players, but how do you recognize them when they’re returning from the great pandemic? Ira David Sternberg has a few ideas.

Gifting Las Vegas

Yes, Las Vegas is bouncing back, but it’s still a reality that not everybody will hop on a plane to visit us just yet. Maybe the secret to getting them here sooner is to bring back the time-honored tradition of players’ clubs giving tchotchkes to their favorite (read: profitable) players. The usual stuff won’t do anymore, so here are some unusual gifts guaranteed to please:

Popeil Pocket Gambler

When you’re not in Vegas, just whip out the PPG from your pocket, push the first button and see if you line up three cherries; push the second button and watch the dice come shooting out of it; push the third button and try to get 21.

Ice Block/Sun Block Combination Hat

Perfect for visiting Las Vegas during the summer. Place the frozen hat on your head and simultaneously watch the SPF 50 kick in.

Psychic Gambler Friends Network

You have a one-year subscription to call the number where a Dionne Warwick sound-alike predicts where and when you’ll win.

Showgirl Jigsaw Puzzle

Two versions, topless and a family-friendly one. The topless is a two-drink minimum.

Loaded Dice Clock

Set the time and watch the dice roll to 7 each time. Perfectly legal, but with a hint of danger in being caught.

Las Vegas Rare Events Calendar

A calendar that features rare events in Las Vegas, including “National Don’t Gamble Day,” “Free Parking Month” and “Remember Maitre D’s Week.”

Be A Headliner

Your name in lights on the Las Vegas Strip for a night. If you’re a high-roller, you get the hotel marquee; if you are a lower-tier player, you get the CVS signboard.

Framed Photo Of Elvis

Not signed, of course, but great for nostalgia…and you might be able to pawn it if your luck runs out.

Binion Bling

Copies of the watches and jewelry Benny Binion wore — just right for getting you into the spirit of Downtown Las Vegas.

Your Mugshot On A Mug

Perfect gift from the Mob Museum.

Dancing Waters Replica For Your Desk

Could be a dual-demographic gift: For the younger crowd, it will remind them of the Bellagio; for the older crowd, it will remind them of Liberace. In either case, have paper towels ready!

A Comp Slip

No, not a drink freebie at the casino, but a free piece of lingerie.

Las Vegas will always get the business, but sometimes it takes a little creative marketing talent to bring customers back after a major setback. A gift in the hand may just do it. My recommendation to all casinos new to this concept: When your customers sign for their gift at the players’ club booth, let them keep the pen. After all, it’s got your name on it.
