Integrity and transparency are everything in the gaming industry. If a game is suspected of being rigged or unfair, it would destroy the credibility gaming has spent years establishing. When gaming was first legalized, the state regulators set up test labs to ensure that all games were what the manufacturers said they were. James Maida was working for New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement when he realized that an independent testing lab could serve the needs of both manufacturers and regulators, so along with fellow DGE worker Paul Magno, he set up Gaming Laboratories International. Now, 25 years after its founding, Maida looks back on what the growth of the industry meant to his company, and also what the service his company provided meant to the industry. He spoke with GGB Editor Frank Legato in May for the cover story of the July edition of Global Gaming Business magazine.
