GLOBAL GAMING BUSINESS PODCAST: Laura Penney, CEO, Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort

This episode of the GGB Podcast features a conversation with Laura Penney, the CEO of the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort in northern Idaho about how she rose through the ranks to become CEO and how she navigated the resort through the pandemic.

The Coeur d’Alene tribe in northern Idaho opened its casino more than 30 years ago and Laura Penney was there from the start. She rose through the ranks, taking increasingly more important jobs until she was appointed CEO in late 2019. Four months later, Covid hit and like all casinos, the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort closed down. The hardships that immediately hit the tribe, its members and the employees were difficult and Penney was tasked with navigating the uncertain time. The process was guided by the recommendations of health officials and went smoothly, and now Penney has big plans for the property. She spoke with GGB Publisher Roger Gros at the Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention in Anaheim in April.
