For Sheldon Adelson, the path from buying a small outdated casino on the Las Vegas Strip to becoming the largest gaming operator on the planet, was one of innovation, vision and leadership. And one of the leaders who has accompanied Adelson for most of that trip has been Rob Goldstein, now the president of global gaming operations for Las Vegas Sands. Among Adelson’s senior gaming executives, Goldstein has the longest tenure by far. Goldstein explains how he has survived where others have left and what Adelson has taught him. The tremendous success of the Macau and Singapore casinos will be duplicated on other Asian countries, says Goldstein, who Adelson’s objections to online gaming have a business foundation as well as moral and social reasons.
