Goa Casinos Will Not Raise Entry Fees

Despite an increase in the entertainment tax and license fees for casinos in the Indian state of Goa, casino operators there have opted not to increase their entry fees.

Effort to maintain market share

Though Goa’s land-based and offshore casinos have been hit with higher taxes and license fees, casino operators in the Indian state will not boost their entry fees, the Times of India reports.

The license transfer fee for land-based casinos was doubled to Rs100 million (US$1.6 million), and the fee for offshore casinos rose to Rs200 million, reported the Asia Gaming Brief. But casino operators are concerned an increase in entry fees could deter customers from entering their casinos.

“We are not increasing the casino entry fee, as we cannot afford to lose market share,” Delta Corp. Chairman Jaydev Mody told the Times.
