Goa Extends Offshore Casino Operations

Offshore casino vessels may operate in the Mandovi River in Goa for three more months, the state government recently announced. An alternate location to the river has been sought for more than three years. Currently five offshore casino licensees operate in the Mandovi River and a sixth recently received permission.

The state government of Goa announced it will allow offshore casino vessels to operate in the Mandovi River for three more months because an alternate site has not yet been identified to relocate the boats. Goa’s state governments have been working on moving the casinos out of the Mandovi River for more than three years.

Currently five offshore casino licensees operate in the Mandovi River: Delta Corp Ltd, Goa Coastal Resorts and Recreation Pvt Ltd, Highstreet Cruises and Entertainment, Golden Peace Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and Delta Pleasure Cruise Company. M V Lucky Seven, owned by Golden Globe Hotels Private Ltd, recently received permission from the Goa Bench of Bombay High Court last week to start offering cruises.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of the BJP government, which took over in March, said the government is committed to moving casinos out of the Mandovi River as soon as an alternate site is found.
