Aaron Gomes, former head of Gold Coast’s Jupiters Casino in Queensland, Australia, has joined Aquis Hotels & Resorts as it prepares to bid on an .15 billion megaresort at Yorkeys Knob in Cairns. Gomes’ title is senior consultant of new projects.
Gomes oversaw all operations at Jupiters and planned a $400 million capital redevelopment before his exit last year, according to the Cairns Post. He has since worked with JNB Gaming on the development of two casinos in the United States, including New York’s $425 million Lago Resort and Casino and the $70 million Kansas Crossing Casino.
Aquis CEO Justin Fung said, “Aaron’s experience both here and overseas will be very important as we progress negotiations with the government for the Yorkeys Knob resort.”
Gomes added that the gaming industry in Queensland is “on the cusp of a bright new era. It is an exciting time to come back and I look forward to working with the Aquis team to advance their portfolio.”
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said she is waiting for Hong Kong billionaire Tony Fung to submit his financials to the government before the project can go ahead.
