Grainne Hurst Named CEO of UK’s Betting and Gaming Council

The U.K. Betting and Gaming Council has a new CEO. Grainne Hurst, whose appointment was announced April 8, has committed to protecting consumers and fighting for safer gambling, Focus Gaming News reported.

BGC’s membership includes more than 90 percent of the U.K.’s regulated betting and gaming industry.

Hurst comes to the position from many years’ experience as a senior executive in the regulated gaming market, most recently as Group Corporate Affairs Director for Entain, where she was for 10 years. She also helped found the international arm of Global Gaming Women, where she is a board member.

She serves on the board of the Entain Foundation, where she helped craft the company’s global safer gambling strategy entitled “Changing for the Bettor.”

The current CEO, Michael Dugher, will become chairman of the board, replacing outgoing Chairman Brigid Simmonds OBE.

Hurst commented, “I am delighted to be joining the BGC at such a crucial time for its members and the millions of customers they serve. I am very grateful to Michael Dugher for everything he has done in establishing the BGC and I look forward to working closely with him to move it forward.”

She promised focusing on  “a well regulated industry which protects customers and looks after their interests.”

Dugher declared, “Grainne’s appointment is excellent news for BGC and our members. She won a very tough, external recruitment process and clearly demonstrated that she has not only mission critical knowledge and experience in the regulated industry – both online and in the land based sector – but also a strong vision for continued change and improvement at the BGC.”
