Granite State to Tax Keno

A bill that would tax keno games and earmark the money to partially fund full-day kindergarten has been approved by both houses of the New Hampshire legislature. It awaits the signature of the governor.

The New Hampshire legislature last week approved taxing the state lottery’s keno games and using the funds raised for full-day kindergarten. The vote in the House was 251-111 and in the Senate 15-8.

The bill is now sitting on the desk of Governor Chris Sununu for his signature.

Sununu is likely to sign the bill since one of his administration’s top goals is to expand kindergarten. In a statement the governor said, “The investments made today will give New Hampshire’s children a strong foundation for tomorrow’s future. Full-day kindergarten is good for children and families, and a critical tool in retaining our future workforce.”
