Graton Rancheria of Northern California broke ground June 16 on the $1 billion expansion of Graton Resort & Casino, which is already the largest casino resort in the Bay Area, Yahoo Finance reported.

The casino will be adding a new parking structure with solar panels and EV charging stations, an additional five-story hotel wing with more than 200 rooms and expanded casino floor with 2,000 more slot machines, a new poker room and a new high-limit area.

A 3,500-seat theater and rooftop restaurant that can accommodate 480 guests will also be added.

Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria Tribal Chairman Sarris told the assembled guests, “This is an exciting day and we’re thrilled to begin construction.”

He added, “The expansion reflects our consistent mission to provide the highest quality guest experience at Graton Resort & Casino. We’ve been working on these plans for several years and we’re excited to create new job opportunities here in Sonoma County.”
