€1 billion investment
A Who’s Who of global gaming operators is lining up to vie for a casino license in in Elliniko, the biggest development project in Athens, Greece, at the site of a former airport. The list of likely contenders includes Caesars Entertainment, the Las Vegas Sands Corp., Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Mohegan Gaming and Hard Rock International.
The Hellenic Gaming Commission has invited them to meet with commissioners by September 10. According to eKathimerini.com, the big operators “are requesting full clarity and guaranteed stability of the wider framework governing the casino.”
The plan calls for an integrated resort on more than 600,000 square meters (148 acres) including a mix of hotels, convention facilities, themed attractions, entertainment, a 15,000-square-meter (161,450-square-foot) casino, shops, restaurants and other attractions.
The investment is expected to exceed €1 billion (US$1.15 billion), including the infrastructure and the license.
