Ground Broken For Mississippi Coast Casino

Ground was broken in D'Iberville, Mississippi for the $250 million Scarlet Pearl Casino, which will create 500 construction and 1,100 permanent jobs. The resort will feature two world-class miniature golf courses which CEO George Toth (l.) said will distinguish the property, in addition to a casino, 300-room hotel, dining, retail and conference and entertainment areas.

An official groundbreaking ceremony recently was held in D’Iberville, Mississippi for the 0 million Scarlet Pearl Casino., the 13th in southern Mississippi. The resort will offer 300 hotel rooms, restaurants, retail and conference and entertainment space.

The property also features two premium miniature golf courses. George Toth, chief executive officer of developers Land Holdings I, said he originally added the golf courses to meet the requirements of the Mississippi Gaming Commission for unique amenities. But he said he later realized the courses would distinguish Scarlet Pearl. “This is what’s going to set us apart. I started to think about all the kids who will play on that course with their parents, their grandparents, the young couples creating the memories,” he said.

Toth noted the casino will create 500 construction jobs and 1,100 permanent jobs. “It makes me feel very proud, because in 2006, I closed a casino in Atlantic City and I put 2,000 people out of work. So now I’ve come full circle, and I’m going to put 1,100 people back to work,” Toth said.

At the ceremony, D’Iberville Mayor Rusty Quave said the casino will be the catalyst to revitalize downtown D’Iberville. He added casino tax revenues will allow the city to give raises to police, fire and city employees and to finance critical infrastructure improvements. “Opening date has to be by New Year’s Eve 2015,” he said.
