Ground recently was broken for the million addition and renovation at Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Red Wing, Minnesota. Owned and operated by the Prairie Island Indian Community, the project, which will add much-needed hotel rooms, will be completed in two phases. The first phase will be finished in late 2017 and the second, a remodel of the current Buffalo Tower, in 2018.

Two new hotel towers, eight stories and seven stories, will connect to the current Eagle Tower, adding 84,000 square feet and 300 new rooms. Of those, 60 will be upper-floor suites overlooking the Prairie Island bluffs. The hotel towers will offer upscale furnishings and upgraded amenities, including spacious walk-in showers and the latest technology.

The project also will include a total renovation of the current hotel lobby, with enhanced front desk facilities, a lounge area, self check-in stations and VIP access with an expanded concierge desk. A new restaurant and bar, the eighth dining option at the property, will be built above the existing Island Xtreme Bowling Center.

In addition, the popular Lagoon Water Park, which opened in February, will be expanded by 3,200 feet and include a larger swimming pool, activity pool, changing rooms and other amenities in response to guest feedback.

The upgrades and additions will create more than 200 construction jobs and 150 new permanent jobs, bringing the total number of Treasure Island employees to 1,750.

The Prairie Island Indian Community also owns and operates Mount Frontenac Golf Course in Frontenac and the Dakota Station gas station and convenience store in Welch.
