Speak Up! Shasta has taken up the cause of opposing the casino being proposed by the Redding Rancheria of Shasta County, California.
The rancheria earlier this year submitted plans to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to relocate its existing Win-River Casino to the west side of Interstate 5. It would include a 250-room hotel, an event center and a convention center.
The group is actively seeking signatures against the casino and says it has so far collected 200 names. The group previously opposed a shopping center and an auto mall, and in August targeted the tribal casino.
The group is working in tandem with the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians, owners of the Rolling Hills Casino, who also oppose the Redding Rancheria’s plans, whose casino would be about 45 minutes away from their casino.
Also opposed to moving the casino is the Churn Creek Bottom Homeowners and Friends, which is asking members to submit comments. It claims nothing has been “officially decided” on the project.
