Gulf Coast Casino Boosts Development

D'Iberville, Mississippi officials said the Scarlet Pearl Casino, scheduled to open in December 2015, led the way in nearly $141 million issued in building permits in the last fiscal year. As a result of the casino, developers are interested in building housing and hotels in the downtown area.

In D’Iberville, Mississippi, nearly 1 million in building permits was issued in the 2013-2014 fiscal year ending September 30, said Community Development Director Hank Rogers. The largest permit was for Scarlet Pearl Casino, set to open in December 2015. The casino will feature a championship miniature golf course

Mayor Rusty Quave said a new Coast Transit center also is under construction in the area of the new casino. He noted because of the casino, developers are interested in the city’s master plan and are considering building more multi-family, upscale housing near the casino and downtown.

Quave added hotel developers would like to have certain property rezoned son they can build in the city.
