In Michigan, the Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi Indians launched online sports betting on August 2 via Parx Interactive, the 14th online sports betting platform in Michigan. In April, the tribe and platform provider launched the online casino, Play Gun Lake.
Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Henry Williams said, “With Gun Lake Casino now fully authorized, 14 current Michigan operators and their platform providers may offer both internet casino gaming and online sports betting to patrons. The associated revenue payments will support responsible gaming, the First Responder Presumed Coverage Fund, K-12 education and economic development.”
Michigan’s 15th online gambling license holder, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, announced it will launch products under its Soaring Eagle Casino brand, though no launch date has been announced. The tribe is partnering with GAN for sports betting.
The Gun Lake Tribe, operators of Gun Lake Casino in Wayland, near Grand Rapids, is somewhat splitting the difference on branding.
Unlike the Michigan tribes that operate Soaring Eagle, Four Winds Casino and FireKeepers, the Gun Lake Tribe elected to partner with an outside casino brand, Pennsylvania-based Parx Casino. Observers said this suggests Gun Lake’s sports betting platform could carry the Parx brand, as online casino carries Play Gun Lake.
Gun Lake Casino launched on-site sports betting in October; Kambi provides odds for the partnership with Parx.
Through June, Play Gun Lake online casino reported $1.27 million in revenue and $1.14 million following adjustments for free play promotions. Posted revenue of $585,200 in June surpassed that of PointsBet Casino, William Hill Casino and FireKeepers, which had a soft launch in June before a full opening in early July. The Gun Lake/Parx partnership has paid $183,131 in taxes to Michigan since launching online in April.
