Handball has joined the list of 28 approved sports for wagering in Indiana. For the first time in 20 years, the U.S. handball team will compete in the World Men’s Handball Championship, January 13-31 in Egypt.

Gamblers in Indiana now can wager on handball, the newest sport to be added by the Indiana Gaming Commission to the state’s list of sports approved for gambling. That list now includes 28 different categories authorized for any of the state’s licensed online or mobile platforms.

The handball organizations now available for betting include:

  • Top league and domestic cups: Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Spain and Sweden
  • European Handball Federation Champions League
  • International Handball Federation World Championship

For the first time in two decades, the U.S. handball squad is scheduled to compete in the World Men’s Handball Championship, January 13 through January 31 in Egypt and featuring teams from 32 nations. The favorite, Denmark, won the 2020 title.

Launched in late 2019, Indiana sports betting handle has reached nearly $1.9 billion, winning $155 million for a hold of about 8 percent, according to Sports Handle. Sports betting handle reached $251.4 million in November 2020, nearly $100 million more than November 2019.
