The former Hard Rock Hotel music club Vinyl will be rebranding as 24 Oxford when the hotel reopens after the first of the year as Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
The new name is derived from the 1970s Virgin Record Store, which operated at 24 Oxford in London—and when Sir Richard Branson sold his first album, “Electronic Meditation” by Tangerine Dream.
Vinyl is a brand name owned by Hard Rock Hotel, and which will continue to live on at the Lake Tahoe Virgin Hotels.
Over the years Vinyl has hosted entertainers such as Horton Heat, Andrew Dice Clay and Imagine Dragons.
J.C. Hospitality leads the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas’ ownership group, which plans to spend $500,000 in the rebranding, as part of its overall $200 million to redo the hotel. Its Chief Operating Officer Gary Scott told the Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Vinyl lays out very nicely, and we’ve thought of repositioning the stage and turning the room around, but those plans were dismissed by the entertainment team.” He added, “We’ve had very positive feedback from the artists and agents about how favorably the room is. So we’ll add some new floor finishes, new bar tops, expanding the VIP section, but for the most part it will stay intact.”
Looking forward, Scott added, “Our approach is, we want to really be fresh and new from all aspects of the hotel, and that includes fresh entertainment.” For that, “comedy makes more the most sense,” he said.
