The 12th season of the World Series of Poker Circuit will conclude with the 2016 World Series of Poker Global Casino Championship, August 9-11 at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, North Carolina. The gold bracelet tournament will offer a $1,000,000 prize pool.
Also during the championship series, Harrah’s Cherokee will host the first event of the 2016-2017 season, August 4-16, including 12 gold ring events and tournaments such as the High Roller event with a $2,200 buy-in plus a Main Event with a $1,675 buy-in.
Formally known as the World Series of Poker National Championship, the Global Casino Championship will make history by welcoming WSOP International Circuit tournament players from Canada, Italy, Morocco and the Czech Republic to join qualifiers from the U.S. version of the WSOP Circuit.
The Main Event winner of each 2015-2016 World Series of Poker Circuit event will earn a free seat to the Global Casino Championship, and the Casino Champion of each stop also will receive a free entry. In addition, 12 qualifiers can earn seats by winning both a Main Event and Casino Champion during International Circuit events. The remaining automatic qualifiers earn seats based on the Circuit point’s leaderboard from the current season. The WSOP Circuit will stop in Iowa, Cherokee and New Orleans to finish up the season. The International Circuit has one stop left in Montreal, so a total of eight players will be added to the automatic qualifiers list. Altogether, 100- 200 players will compete in the Global Casino Championship with a prize pool of $1 to $2 million.
Harrah’s Cherokee General Manager and Senior Vice President Brooks Robinson said both the finale of the 2016 tournament and the start of the 2016-2017 Circuit season offer “a fantastic opportunity for the employees of the casino to help showcase the resort facility.”
