Atlantic City’s rebirth could come at a business conference.
Harrah’s Atlantic City announced it has signed its first major conference for its under-construction Waterfront Conference Center for October 2015.
Atlanta-based UniPro Foodservice has signed a deal that will bring about 1,400 attendees to the center for a trade show and networking event.
The $126 million center has 100,000 square feet of conference space and should be completed by August 2015.
Harrah’s officials say that the center and existing conference space at the casino hotel will make it the largest conference facility from Baltimore to Boston. They expect the center to generate $30 million in revenue a year for the local economy.
Rick Mazer, general manager of Harrah’s Resort, said “This is really, in my opinion, the future for Atlantic City, and the way it has to go to really start growing again,” said Rick Mazer, general manager of Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City.
The state Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has given $45 million to the project, which was also approved for $24.1 million in state tax breaks over 20 years.
