As part of a $350 million renovation plan, Harrah’s New Orleans Casino announced it will build a 24-story, 340-room luxury hotel atop the current entrance to its Canal Street casino. Harrah’s officials said the upgrades will generate $13 million in new revenue to Louisiana and $8 million to the city, plus create 600 construction jobs and 500 new full-time jobs. Harrah’s purchases nearly 27,000 rooms a year at other hotels for its guests.
The project also will include 20,000 square feet of event space, a rooftop pool and bar, a gym and spa and the new Best of NOLA outdoor food hall featuring well known New Orleans restaurants. The plan also will include the 35,000 square foot Fillmore Theater, to be managed by Live Nation. Also, a new canopy will be erected over Fulton Street.
The state legislature and city council are required to approve the renovation plan.
