Police in Honolulu are cracking down on violations of the state’s strict anti-gambling laws. Last week they raided several suspect gaming rooms and earlier in the month they confiscated gaming machines from a market and liquor store.
Police say as many as 100 illegal gaming rooms are operating on the island of Oahu.
Police Major Larry Lawson of the city’s criminal investigation division said that gambling is not a victimless crime. “[W]e know that game rooms are often the hubs of illegal activity such as drug dealing, robberies, assaults and homicides have been associated with game rooms,” he told the Island News.
During the last month 35 gaming-related arrests have been made, with raids focusing on urban Honolulu.
