Officials from the city of Beloit, Wisconsin and the Ho-Chunk Nation recently met to formalize a resolution supporting the tribe’s proposed $405 million Beloit casino project. The casino, which Ho-Chunk officials proposed late last year, would offer 300 hotel rooms, five restaurants, a 40,000 square foot indoor water park and an employee child care facility.
Ho-Chunk Nation Public Relations Officer Collin Price said, “We know that not everybody is going to support this but overall this is going to be a good thing for the community when we look at 1,500 jobs and the millions of dollars that are going to be impacting various programs in the city. We think this is just a good thing. We’re going to continue to engage the community.”
Price said Ho-Chunk leaders are working to gain support for the casino project from the community and local businesses. Meanwhile the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Indian Affairs is reviewing the tribe’s land-trust application, a process that could take years, he stated.
