Connected by bridge to Grand Lisboa?

A son of Macau gaming legend Stanley Ho is getting into the integrated resort business in the MSAR. According to Inside Asian Gaming, Arnaldo Ho will build a $5 billion (US$641 million) resort “inspired by classic Macau venues” next to SJM’s Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai.

Operated by Macau Theme Park and Resort Ltd., Lisboeta will cover 141,000 square meters (1.5 million square feet) and include three hotels with a total of 820 rooms: the Lisboeta, the Maison L’Occitane, and the Casa de Amigo. The resort is scheduled to be complete sometime in 2020.

“Lisboeta will become the next classic of the future,” said Ho, whose mother is SJM executive and local lawmaker Angela Leong. Its architecture will be inspired by landmarks such as the Hotel Estoril and the floating casino Macau Palace, IAG reported.

Lisboeta will also have a zip-line ride, indoor skydiving and an Emperor Cinemas facility with Macau’s first IMAX and MX4D movie theaters. Food and beverage outlets will offer traditional Macanese foods. The IR will also include a futuristic retail district and meeting and convention space.

Ho said the IR will target families and not include any gaming space to start. “This land is for hotel use, I’m here as a hotel company, so I can’t comment at the moment on whom I will be partnering with, and whether there will be casinos in the end is subject to government’s review and approval,” he said. “Of course I would like to have a casino, because it’s a good thing to have gaming element.”

Ho said his company may build a bridge to connect Lisboeta with Grand Lisboa Palace to facilitate traffic between the adjacent properties. The Grand Lisboa Palace is scheduled to open sometime in 2019.
